Mt Caernarvon in the Flinders Ranges

Well it looks like I am the only one that has enjoyed this great little drive a few times when in this area.

Here are some more images for travellers to try and pin point this location.

This first image is the main track that you have to leave.



The track now turns into a great easy drive through Black Oak Country, and red sand...the country I love.


There is one special ruin that we never fail to stop at, as it is just so special.


You then enter open country and the sandy track goes into a well used, wide road, as shown in my photos above. Still being remote, the old telegraph line is still in place, but seen better days.


I can not make it any easier than this, so if you have not been there you have missed out on a great drive.

What about the Johnsburg area. or is this too far east and then sth east. whoops miss read west of Flinders Ranges, I'll look again.

What about Mount Wedge on the Elliston Stock Route. That has a Trig below 400m and above 180m and the terrain looks similar. Not sure about the ruin though

Looks a bit like the open country around Kingoonya.

Stephen, I feel that I have seen that stove in a ruined dwelling somewhere but I cannot remember where. I will be pleased to learn the answer. I certainly have seen remnants of old telegraph lines with mulga poles too, but do not know if it was the same one you pictured.
Your photos of the red dirt roads are making me very impatient to get out there again.

I think your last clue to BarryG about Kingoonya area gave it away.
